The report by TRICS Consortium provides insight on servicing and delivery patterns around urban residential developments

The report used enhanced multi-modal surveys at three London developments to create a robust dataset around trips, service types, and dwell times. These can be used for further analysis by the wider transport planning industry. The study examined trips by utility, fast food, groceries, courier service, mail, homeware, waste and recycling providers. This data was then paired against vehicle types including pedal cycles and cargo bikes.
Fast food deliveries accounting for around half of all trips
The report found that fast food deliveries dominate the servicing landscape, which reflects growing e-commerce and broader lifestyle trends. It also concluded that pedal cycles including cargo bikes and motorcycles are becoming much more prevalent in urban logistics. In addition, it showed that the volume of trips and the amount of time employees spent at each location was impacted by the development type and other factors.
TRICS considers that the wealth of data obtained, covering all types of servicing and deliveries, constitutes a valuable source of information and guidance, that can be referenced when examining developments and transport planning in other parts of the UK and also Ireland.
“One aspect that immediately jumps out from this research is the vast quantity of fast-food deliveries we now generate, consistently recorded as around 50 percent of all deliveries across the individual sites,” said Tim Hapgood, senior associate, transport planning at 麻豆视频.
“It’s clear that food delivery apps make it incredibly easy to get almost any food you desire delivered directly to you. Understanding this delivery and servicing activity in the context of urban residential developments is crucial. By identifying the how, what, where, and when in greater detail, we can take a more analytical approach with greater impact on planning and manage this activity effectively and efficiently at residential developments.”
