Pipeline Systems Data Management Support

Pipeline integrity management is more than just a technical necessity¡ªit's a strategic imperative. Our client engaged us to help develop a complete, integrated, and accurate picture of their pipeline systems including activities, history, surroundings, and risks.

In supporting our client¡¯s pipeline open data standard (PODS) database within an ESRI ArcGIS environment, our approach needed to be both methodical and innovative. So, we implemented PODS Lite, a scalable and intuitive framework that they can use to manage as-built data during construction and throughout the asset¡¯s operational life.

Standardization played a key role in this project. When data is delivered in inconsistent formats, workflows can be disrupted. However, in working closely with vendors, we emphasized the value of consistency in keeping things moving.

The project unfolded in three critical phases: evaluating input sources and standards, developing data governance models, and building automated extract, transform, load (ETL) tools. These tools enabled seamless integration of diverse datasets, each with its own format, quality, and completeness.

With a transparent, repeatable, and scalable system that could be transferred internally and maintained with confidence, our client can use this ESRI-based data model to manage their infrastructure with clarity and control.
