November 03, 2025

The new facility will bring comprehensive radiation therapy

Construction has started on the new C$311 million BC Cancer Centre at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital. The facility will provide comprehensive cancer care—chemotherapy, immunotherapy, targeted therapy, and hormonal therapy—for central and north Vancouver Island patients.

Designed to support patient well-being, the four-story center will feature natural light, views, and amenities including radiation therapy, CT simulator, linear accelerator vaults, outpatient oncology care, PET/CT diagnostic scanner, systemic therapy, an oncology pharmacy, dispensary, and a sacred space.

The Honourable?Bowinn?Ma, Minister for Infrastructure for British Columbia, joined the groundbreaking celebration. “This facility is a generational investment in health care for the central Island. It will deliver better care for cancer patients for many years to come by providing vital services closer to home, so patients?won’t?have to travel long distances for treatment,” said Ma.

The project, scheduled for completion in 2028, is a collaboration between BC Cancer, Provincial Health Services Authority, Ministry of Infrastructure, and Island Health as part of?.? ? ??
