Advanced Water Treatment

Advanced water treatment approaches and wastewater technologies

Not all corners of the world have abundant, clean water. Some face droughts, while others deal with contamination. When you combine the effects of climate change, finding ways to mitigate the forces of nature impacting water supplies can seem like an impossible job.

Recycling water is a crucial step to providing sustainable, high-quality water resources. Properly treated municipal wastewater effluent, or reclaimed water, is a dependable and drought-resistant resource.

We offer a wide range of services, from project inception to full operation. Our teams provide infrastructure assessments, feasibility studies, conceptual and detailed designs, operations optimization, program management, public outreach, funding analysis and construction management. Our solutions help clients increase resiliency, reduce demand uncertainties, mitigate risks of stranded assets, and maintain adaptability for the future.

Sustainable water solutions aren¡¯t just possible¡ªthey¡¯re essential.

Shifting from indirect to direct potable reuse

Our focus is on the One Water Cycle¡ªan integrated methodology to managing all forms of water¡ªwhether it¡¯s drinking water, wastewater, stormwater, or water in natural systems. This concept emphasizes that all water has value and promotes cooperation across different industries and partners to achieve sustainable water management. For some communities, water reuse will represent the only practical solution. Learn More

Developing carbon-based advanced treatment solutions for inland potable reuse

Common in coastal regions, reverse osmosis, is often impractical inland due to the disposal of brine¡ªwastewater with a high concentration of salts. Carbon-based advanced treatment (CBAT) technologies¡ªlike ozone and activated carbon¡ªoffer a brine-free, energy-efficient alternative. These technologies enhance removal of trace organics and emerging contaminants, supporting regulatory compliance and public health protection. Our experience in CBAT positions us to deliver scalable, cost-effective solutions for inland water reuse programs.

Strategic funding support to power sustainable water solutions

Our North America Funding Program has helped clients secure millions in grants and low-interest loans for water recycling projects. We offer end-to-end support¡ªfrom identifying and preparing applications to navigating regulatory compliance. With experience across agencies like the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), Bureau of Reclamation, and state and local agencies, we build effective funding strategies to help you bring sustainable water projects to life. Proving what¡¯s possible with demonstration facilities

We have designed and operated multiple ambitious water reuse programs for agencies like the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, Los Angeles Bureau of Sanitation, and the City of San Diego. For the Pure Water San Diego Program, we led pilot studies and operated a 1-million-gallons-per-day-scale demonstration facility that secured regulatory approval and public support for full-scale implementation of the membrane filtration/reverse osmosis/ultraviolet light advanced oxidation process train.
